A nationally recognized leader, Dr. Sharon Beverly possesses over 30 years of excellence in higher education with experience at the Assistant Vice President, Director and Chair levels. She is a servant leader and passionate about helping others succeed. Utilizing her vast experiences, she will aid you in making positive changes in your life and/or career.
Dr. Beverly has the distinction of being one of a select few African-American women in the country to serve in the position of athletics director. During her time at The College of New Jersey, she lead a 20 sport NCAA program that ranked amongst the top in the country. While there she designed the restructuring of the athletics and recreation department, augmented revenue and staffing, and improved diversity. The Lions earned tremendous distinction during her tenure earning 4 NCAA Individual National Championships and 1 Team National Championship.
In March of 2014, Dr. Beverly was named one of 30 leading women in higher education honored by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education Magazine. Diverse honors trailblazing women who are paving the way for future female leaders at institutions of higher learning. Each selected leader demonstrates perseverance, tenacity, and a broad impact on the academy and beyond.
Beverly’s administrative career began at Vassar College as the associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator and subsequently as the director of athletics and physical education.
During her tenure, Vassar witnessed the expansion of the athletics program in number of sport offerings and staffing, dramatic improvements to facilities and an increased awareness of its intercollegiate programs. The enhancements to facilities and staff led to notable achievements in competition during her leadership as student-athletes earned All-American honors in numerous sports, multiple teams won League championships, and one team competed for a National championship.
She joined Vassar after a successful career as head women’s basketball coach at Queens College, in Flushing, NY, Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ, and New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ. One highlight of her coaching career was selection as an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic Festival. She is currently a member of the Hall of Fame at FDU and QC.
